Luci Solar Lantern: Small is Powerful

The market already has a plethora of products that are sold as ‘innovative’, so I was skeptical about the Luci solar lantern in the beginning. However, after using it for nearly a week, I must say that this micro solar powered lantern can make a splash in the market.

Luci solar lantern is an easy to use, high quality, micro solar lantern and task light that can be used for directional as well as room lighting. It is water-proof and rust-resistant, two features which are difficult to find in the market.

The Luci rechargeable solar lantern is designed and manufactured by M POWER Inc., a business based in New York, and marketed in India by Virtuous Innovations, a distributor of solar products.

Luci Solar Lantern: Handy, Light in Weight

luci-solar-lanternThere’s nothing more exhilarating than setting off on an outdoor adventure. The key to getting the most out of your outdoor adventure is the proper equipment. If you plan it well, mishaps like running out of water, sleeping in the pouring rain, and running out of power can be avoided. When I was last trekking in the Uttarakhand region, with our heavy backpacks through the unknown tracks, this solar lantern truly came in really handy.

It has three modes of lighting: low, high and party light. An eight hour charge under the sun easily gives you twelve hours of light in low mode. In high mode (it lasted for five hours), there was distinct visibility of 5-6 feet ahead of us. I have not come across the party light feature in other solar lanterns in the same price point. It added a flavor to our evening celebrations at the camp. Interestingly, the solar lantern can even be charged in moderate room lighting conditions.

Fancy Look, Yet Durable

The first impression of the product may be misleading, it looks like a CD case, the magic begins, the moment you inflate it with air. The outer cover of the lamp has a fragile look but the transparent material used is not only sturdy, it has an overcurrent and short-circuit protection. You can even leave the lamp in a bucket full of water, it will still be glowing! Thumbs up to M POWER Inc for designing an attractive solar product, which catches our fancy and increases the attraction of solar products in wider customer group.

Our Recommendation:

My review on the illumination level of Luci solar lantern at a variety of locations is that, it can be used for camping, trekking, outdoor and indoor parties. We suggest including Luci in first-aid kits for night safety and power outages.

Luci solar lantern is priced at INR 1,122 and it comes with one year replacement warranty, which is quite decent as per industry standards.

After reading the article I realised that leds are driven by battery. Why is it being sold as a “solar” lantern ?

Solar lantern works on DC batteries which are powered by solar panels.
