Tata Solar Diva™ 5L: A Handy Lighting Solution

Solar lighting solutions in urban and rural India are fast gaining in popularity. Most of the e-commerce portals offer a whole range of colorful solar lights across a wide price range. It is not easy to decide which one is really good and which is not: Is the product durable? Is it easy to use? Who will repair it, in case it breaks down, etc.?

We want to help you address these issues. We regularly review solar products for you and thoroughly test them before sharing recommendations.

Tata-Solar-DivaTM-5LTata Solar Diva™ 5L: Easy to Use and Affordable

The Tata Solar Diva™ 5L is a basic solar powered reading light. It is competitively priced at INR 700 and scores high on functionality.

After fully charging it for 6 hours in direct sunlight, you can use it for 8 hours flicker free in the half power mode (push the switch once). If you need more brightness, you can switch on the full power mode (push the switch twice) and use it for 5 hours at a stretch. The green light on the lamp indicates when it is fully charged.

When charging for the first time, make sure that the lamp is turned off. If the red light does not glow while charging, place the module facing the sun. I found it pretty simple and convenient to use. Maintenance is just as easy. You only need to wipe the module clean with a cotton cloth and blow dust from the connector pin once a week.

The gooseneck of this solar lantern helps you to conveniently direct the light to wherever you require. The gooseneck seems to be quite fragile. Perhaps children should not be toying with it while studying.

Our Recommendation:

The Tata brand should go some way in ensuring quality. The price is ok. This product is perfect for first time users, who are not looking at spending too much on a reading light right now. It can even maka e nice gift for a friend!

In a rural setting, it will also be very useful. The solar lantern can boost literacy in remote areas.
